My Best Friend's Wedding

How awesome is it to see your best friend for the first time in eight years? (Rhetorical question!) And how awesome to see your best friend marry her prince charming? (Again, rhetorical question!) Well, my BFF Christina got married on Sunday, Sept 21, 2008, at the Willows Lodge, near Seattle, WA. Everything about the day was beautiful! But let me back track.

We arrived in Bothell on Saturday afternoon (compliments of Uncle Don and Aunt Sherry) and that night Christina and Bryan hosted a pre-wedding party at their house. It was nice because everyone was able to see each other, mingle, catch-up, laugh, and get to know each other all before the big day. And since it had been awhile since many of her guests had seen her, it made it very nice.

It was so great to see Christina! I couldn't ask for a better friend! And what makes our friendship so easy, is that even though we don't see each other often and we communicate through phone and email, we easily pick up right where we left off, every time.... as if we weren't 3,500 miles. We joke about how much fun it would be to go shopping on a Saturday afternoon at the mall, or go get a mani and pedi, or just hang out like girlfriends do... but that just hasn't been our thing. Not because we don't want to, but we just haven't been able to. So needless to say, to just hang out on that Saturday night was probably the most enjoyable part for me. It was as if we didn't live across the country from each other and it was as if we just saw each other yesterday. Wow, what a gift that was to me. What is so funny is we took two pictures together, what we call our "hanging out on a Saturday" pictures. We switched sides so it would look like we hung out more than once. We are geeks, I know.

The next morning, Rob and I met my Aunt Kathy and Uncle John for breakfast! What a treat it was so see them. We spent the whole morning gabbing about everything while eating pumpkin pancakes! It was totally awesome. I was just saying to her in an email that us being together like that, and wanting to see each other, and gabbing away, is just one of many things I marvel and admire about our Strobel Clan. It is so easy to just pick up wherever and whenever you left off. My Grandma Strobel was the thread that kept us all together and now that we have the responsibility to do it on our own, it makes it quite exciting. Hopefully they can make it out East next summer and spend some time with us! And again, it was so awesome to see them!

After breakfast we packed up our stuff and moved to the wedding hotel, which was beyond gorgeous! Talk about resort! It was unbelievable and so beautiful! Everything about it was divine! And her wedding as so beautiful, everything from the flowers, to the center pieces to the wedding favors... I just loved it. And ohh, she was breathtakingly beautiful... and her husband Bryan was dashingly handsome in his tuxedo. The sun was out, gently cascading across the mountains, it wasn't too cool and she couldn't have asked for a better day. The food and the cake were outstanding too. I could have had more than one helping on each. She did an absolutely fantastic job of creating the most marvelous setting, atmosphere and day for a wedding.

It was also so great to see her family and friends! We had a great time at the reception with her sisters and brothers, and everyone else too. After the wedding, we event spent some time in the lounge just hanging out catching up some more. It was awesome, it was such a treat for me that Rob and I could go out there to visit her. Especially on such a joyous event.
We wish Mr. and Mrs. Metzger a lifetime of happiness, good will and countless blessings. My father in law gave me some of the best advice on Rob and my wedding night and I would like to pass it along to them. "Marriage can be awfully simple, or simply awful." So to Christina and Bryan, enjoy every minute of it and love each other every day like it is your last. XOXO
